Samay - Resplendent Living
SAMAY - Resplendent living
Informal drawing room
The Penthouse has a double-height linear drawing room that looks up into a balcony connected to the upper level floor. Both spaces look out to open views through full-length windows and a staircase adds visual depth. Wood, cladded bricks and fabrics govern the material palette whereas wooden accents, warm colours and textures add softness. Tall windows and full length curtains compliment the luxe ambience of this space.
DRAWING ROOM
The Key element here is the double height drawing room that adds drama to the space. It is spacious, and the room looks much more extensive. It also gives a functional advantage and an elegant look to the room. The towering space is designed cleverly by playing with scale. The open living area is bathed in the natural light coming in from the external balcony. The juxtaposition of the two contrasting spaces (balcony being a void-like space, the other is the home) adds to the experience of the volume in this area. The color palette makes up for a pleasing aesthetic, while the stair leading to the top floors is modern and trendy. The wooden ceiling gives visual weight to the space and the Italian marble flooring brightens it up. The perception of lowering the volume is achieved by the hanging lights. A custom shrine sits inside the puja room, located between the drawing room and Parents’ bedroom, with a tall candle stand and closed storage shelves. The room offers ample floor space on which to settle down and spend time in prayer.
LIVING ROOM
This grandeur further extends to other spaces of the house. Talking about the living room, it is divided into two sections with the Jhula acting as a space divider. The TV is mounted on a panel made with metal, wood and fabrics that match the surrounding colour scheme. It also camouflages a bathroom door at its corner. The circular centre and corner tables cut the monotony of cuboidal geometry of the overall space and other furniture pieces in the room such as leather sofas and shelves. This living room extends into a semi open outdoor seating area that allows natural light to flow freely into the enclosed space, wherein the beige shades and shimmering textures along with the accent pillows gives a luxurious setting. As it is on the top most floor of the apartment, the security is also well taken care of. Along with that it is also made sure that the city views are not missed upon by the residents.
OTHER SPACES
It is well quoted that no amount of money or success can take the place of the time spent with your family. In Samay, where three generations of a family make memories and happiness together, designers Nirav Rakhasiya and Rohit Khunt have provided some areas common to spend family time like the outdoor living, outdoor dining on the lower floor and home theatre on the upper floor. There are also some private spaces like Parents’ bedroom, Children’s bedroom, Study room and two guest rooms on the main floor whereas the upper level floor has two humongous bedrooms of the brothers. All these private rooms have their own extension in the balconies to provide light and ventilation. Also it is a refreshing space that connects indoors to the outdoors.
BATHROOMS
Not only the bedrooms and living room or drawing room, but even the washrooms are lavishly designed for the clients to have a relaxing bath everyday. The bathrooms have a variety of luxurious elements like jacuzzi, shower panels, a dressing area adjoining the washroom, a lit mirror, glossy walls, back painted glass cabinet, and much more. There is also a bathroom in contrast to these that has earthy tones, natural stones like Jaisalmer and Kota (both these are stones attained from Jaisalmer and Kota cities respectively of Rajasthan state in India).
KITCHEN - DINING
The kitchen and dining spaces are arranged in such a way that there can be ceaseless communication with the master chefs of the house and the rest of the family members. The kitchen has an island breakfast table. The contrasting members of the kitchen - mirror finish cabinets and wooden drawers give a indo-western look to the space. The best part of the dining room is the contemporary chandelier. This proves that the designers have taken decisions so sensitively that the house becomes a reflection of both traditional and modern embellishments.
ARTIFACTS
Art persists, it timelessly continues. The house is adorned with many artifacts and details worth contemplating. It includes the chakdas (embroidered pieces of fabric) - which has been attained in heredity from generation to generation in this family and can be observed in the drawing room also - these have been framed and enhanced by the designers, the marble finish staircase wall has the helmsman depicting upward movement, the metal birds, the seated or resting men in the mezzanine corridor and an outstanding joinery detail is the cherry on the cake.
